    1st Johor International Chess Open 2014

    Date     : 1st December – 6th December 2014
    ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Tournament Regulations
    • This is an individual tournament, open to all players.
    • There are two categories of play: the Open category for all players and the Challenger category for players rated below 2000 (FIDE ratings) or 1850 (national ratings).
    • FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules and regulations apply. Results will be sent for FIDE rating calculations.
    • Both categories will be played using the Swiss System, with 9 rounds for both the Open and Challenger categories. For the pairings, a Swiss Manager program will be used.
    • The rounds shall be conducted according to the schedule attached.
    • Each player is accorded a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move.
    • Five minutes before each round starts, the Chief Arbiter shall make the relevant announcements. If any player is not present within an hour after the round is started, he shall lose by default.
    • FIDE regulations apply for mobile phones – all mobile phones must be turned off during playing times. Penalty is the automatic loss of the game.
    • Officials and players should be smartly attired at all times while in the playing hall.

    1st Malacca International Chess 2012



    Words have it that the 1st Melaka International event has been finalized and that the event will be hosted by the Historical City of Melaka starting from 20th April right up to 1st May 2012. The event will be marked as one of the major international event to commemorate the 750th year of Melaka since it was first founded and built

    The event shall start with an 11 round International Rapid event offering a prize fund of USD 20,000 to be played over the 2 days weekend, followed by Classical event over 9 rounds for 2 categories - Open International and Challenger, offering a total prize fund of up to RM 50,000.

    The total prize fund is one of the biggest purse ever offered for a local tournament surpassing that of the Malaysian Chess Festival. Entry fees for the event and other details are being fine tuned before it is officially released

    The 12 days chess gala will be hosted at the Hang Tuah Hotel right in the heart of Melaka City where Mahkota Parade, Dataran Pahlawan, Historical Museums, popular night spots and eateries, are all located within walking distance from the playing venue.

    An opening dinner is also on the agenda and it is very likely that it will be officiated by the YAB Ketua Menteri Melaka with many local, regional and international chess dignitaries expected to attend the festival.

    4th NATIONAL JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 - 19th to 23rd December 2011

    6 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur - The year end is racing to a furious pace with plenty of tournaments. Up next after the Sarawak Open is the 4th National Junior Chess Championship 2011.

    The Malaysian Chess Federation will be organizing the 4th National Junior Chess Championship from 19th December to 23rd December at DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur.

    As per the previous editions, the championship will be played over 9 rounds using Swiss Pairing system with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move per player from move 1.

    The event is open only to Malaysian citizens born on or after 1991 i.e. 20 years of age and below, and the Champion will be awarded the title National Junior Masters by the Malaysian Chess Federation.

    Registration fees is RM60 for players with a FIDE rating and those without FIDE rating, the entry fees shall be RM100. The closing date for registration shall be 16th December 2011 and additional penalty fees shall be imposed for those who register after the closing date.

    4th National Junior Chess Championship

    24th November 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian Chess Federation is organising the National Junior Chess Championship for boys and girls on the 19-23rd December 2011 at DATCC, Kuala Lumpur.

    Closing date will be on 16th December 2011.

    The champions will earn titles, NATIONAL JUNIOR MASTER - (NJM) BOY and NATIONAL JUNIOR MASTER - (NJM) GIRL.

    Puteri Rifqah Gold, Yeoh Li Tian Silver in APSSO

    13 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur -Last night Puteri Rifqah Fahada Bt Azhar finally got it right by winning the precious gold medal for team Malaysia at the 5th APSSO chess rapid individual girls category. Rifqah scored 5.5 points from 7 rounds of rapid play held over two days. She managed to reduce her draws to just one and won all the others. Congratulations to Rifqah for perseveringly and gritty enough by winning and confirming her top seeding.
    Meanwhile Yeoh Li Tian suffered a loss but still won the Silver medal for Malaysia. Li Tian lost to Novendra Priasmoro in the fourth round of play.Novendra eventually ended as the champion of the boys individual rapid event.

    12 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur - IM Jimmy Liew (pix above) wins the INSOFAR 2nd Open (Adult) Scholarship 2011 held at DATCC last Sunday, 9 October 2011. He scored 3.5 points from four rounds of play.

    Asian Amateur Open, Women Chess 2011

    8 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Latest News : The event is now confirmed—Malaysia will be hosting the ASIAN Amateur Open and Women Chess Championship in Kuala Lumpur starting with player’s arrival on Friday, 25th November 2011 until the last round on 30th November 2011.


    The event is limited only to players who has a FIDE Rating of below 2100 points (for at least the last 2 years) or Unrated players only.




    The 9 rounds event offers a total prize fund of USD 7.000 with USD 1,500 going to the eventual winner. For the Women and Unrated player, the winner will earn cash prize of USD 500 each.


    The event will be held at Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur and entry fees has been set at USD125 for rated players, and USD 150 for players without rating
