The organizing committee officially confirms that the upcoming premier chess event, scheduled for August 28 to September 6, 2026, has been renamed. Formerly known as the "21st Merdeka Chess Festival," the event is now officially titled the 21st Malaysian Chess Festival 2026.

The community is advised that the new title, Malaysian Chess Festival, is now the standard designation for the overarching event. While specific sub-events within the festival—such as the Dato' Arthur Tan Open—may retain their historical "Merdeka" distinctives, the umbrella festival itself is to be referred to strictly as the Malaysian Chess Festival.
